I recently saw a show on TV called “I am Bruce Lee.” It was a documentary about the life of martial arts legend and movie star, Bruce Lee. As with most of my generation, I grew up watching his karate movies. Later in life when I began taking karate classes I found many younger students were imitating his moves in an attempt to be just like him.
Most of us know him for his martial arts prowess, but there was another side of him that was also very wise.
Bruce was also big on setting goals. When watching this program I was amazed at how Bruce apparently was using the law of attraction to attract the destiny he wanted to experience. Did he know of the law of attraction of did he just intuitively know how to use it?
Here were his goals he wrote down on Jan 1969:
My definite chief aim:
I, Bruce Lee, will be the first highest paid Oriental Superstar in the United States.
In return I will give the most exciting performances and render the best of quality in the capacity of an actor.
Starting in 1970, I will achieve world fame and from then onward til the end of the 1980 I will have in my possession 10 million dollars.
I will live the way I please and achieve inner harmony and happiness.
If you read books on the law of attraction such as Think and Grow Rich or Awaken Your Power you will see that to make the law of attraction work in your life you must first declare what you want in your life by focusing on it with your attention or a statement of desire. Then you must give something in return. Bruce Lee clearly states his intention and what he is willing to give (exciting performances and render the best of quality in the capacity of an actor) to make that a reality.
It is interesting to note that during the time he wrote these goals (1969) Bruce Lee was struggling financially and was battling a racism in Hollywood. Forced to find a way, he went back to China to make a movie. It was a success and got the attention of Hollywood.
Bruce Lee’s dreams came true only a few years later when his film Enter the Dragon was released raking in over 90,000,00 to date. Sadly though, Lee’s life was cut short just months before his movie was released. He died suddenly from an unknown cause on May 10th, 1973. Today, almost 40 years later, there is still controversy surrounding his death.
In summary, Bruce Lee was a man who forged his future by focusing his desired thoughts (the law of attraction) and expressing himself and working towards those goals. Yes, he died before his goals were reached (we never know when our time is up), but there is no denying that he manifested every one of his dreams and made them come true.
Most people don’t know that Bruce Lee was also very wise.
Here are some of his wisdom quotes:
- The key to immortality is first living a life worth remembering.
- To be a martial artist means to also be an artist of life.
- If you truly want to live life you must learn to express yourself.
- Be formless… shapeless, like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You pour water into a bottle; it becomes the bottle. You put water into a teapot; it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow, or creep or drip or crash! Be water, my friend.
- All types of knowledge, ultimately leads to self-knowledge.
- Use only that which works, and take it from any place you can find it.
- Do not deny the classical approach, simply as a reaction, or you will have created another pattern and trapped yourself there.
- Quick temper will make a fool of you soon enough.
- I always learn something, and that is: to always be yourself. And to express yourself, to have faith in yourself. Do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate him.
- It’s not the daily increase but daily decrease. Hack away at the unessential.
